'Through a thorough understanding of the musculature and skeleton of the horse, riders will understand how their horses move.   This will allow them to make informed decisions about how they ride, how their horses move and what can be expected of them.’

“TRULY INSPIRATIONAL!” was the verdict given by Caroline Moore, trainee coach with Yogi Breisner to the British Eventing Team. Caroline was commenting on Gillian Higgins’ lecture: ‘The Muscles and Skeleton in Motion’ aimed at horse owners, trainers and any anyone else interested in equine anatomy and physiology.

HORSES INSIDE OUT is marketed as a ‘fascinating and funtastic’ way of learning about your horse; literally from the inside out. The serious side of the message is how to enhance the comfort and welfare of your equine partner, whilst maximising performance through awareness and knowledge of how the horse ‘works.’

About the Clinic

Through the art of Tai Chi equestrians discover a level of inner balance and awareness seldom achieved by riding alone." Join us and feel the power and energy within yourself unlocked by this ancient art.

James works with the group and individually with each rider, addressing their specific needs in creating a softer seat and a deeper connection with their horse.

He then teaches and demonstrates a specific set of exercises for the ground and the saddle.  These exercises enable the rider to recognize and change their unconscious habits that have created patterns of imbalance.  These unconscious habits are the root cause of holding tension in the body and create separation from your horse.

About James Shaw

What is Tai Chi for Equestrians ?    James Shaw WebSite

For the last 15 years, James has worked with the riders on the ground to help them discover and change imbalances in their body.  Then, through mounted work, the rider is able to take this new understanding into the saddle and see dramatic changes in their connection with their horse.  James’ technique works for all types of riders. He works with riders of all ages and levels including professional and Olympic riders.  He has presented successful clinics throughout the United States and in the United Kingdom.  His first book “Ride From Within” was release in August of 2005.

About Alexandra Kurland

A pioneer in the development of humane training methods, Alexandra began clicker training in the early 1990's.  She very quickly recognized the power of clicker training for improving performance, for enhancing the relationship people have with their horses, and for just plain putting fun back into training.

Alexandra Kurland WebSite

About the Clinic

Alexandra will explain the principals of clicker training with horses and how to get started.  In the clinic, there will also be practical demonstrations followed by work with each of the horses and their owners.  Each clinic is set up to ensure everyone learns in a way that is suitable for owner and horse partnership.  The clinics are very interactive and, whether with or without a horse, you are guaranteed to learn from hands-on work or observation and discussion.

The lecture / demo and clinic will be run as separate events, therefore, you can attend one or both events.  Mounted and un-mounted places are available for the clinic and stabling will be provided for all clinic horses.

if you would like to get started with Clicker Training your horse before Alexandra's clinic, or f you are stuck with your clicker training and where to go next, contact Amanda and book a clinic or a 1-2-1 session (or series of sessions).

Or you could try the online clicker training (click here).

 Description:
6 Week Introduction to Clicker Training for the Horse

Clicker training can be used for every horse whether you have a young horse, a foal, a stallion, a happy hacker, a competition horse or a problem horse.  Clicker training is fun for both the horse and the trainer providing a clear way to communicate to your horse and forms a wonderful bond between horse and trainer……

Clicker training is rewards based training, so we reward the behaviours we want from our horses.  Clicker trainers do not punish the unwanted, but rather learn how to re-direct the energy of unwanted behaviours to be a behaviour that we do want and can reward.

This clicker training course is designed to get you started with clicker training.  The course will get you started with the training method by learning how to charge the clicker, find appropriate and meaningful ways to reward your horse and get you going with some of the foundation lessons that we teach.

To understand the method so that you can use it to the best of your ability, we do discuss a little bit of detail about the science behind the training method……don’t worry, it’s not boring.  Understanding the basics of why it works will make you a much better trainer and will help to set you up to tackle training almost any behaviour.

We also look at how to make the behaviours understandable to the horse….how to break them on in to small enough steps to ensure your horse is successful in his/her attempts to getting the ‘yes’ answer.

There are 6 foundation lessons that we will also discuss.  These foundation lessons were planned by a classical dressage trainer and they are key to setting the foundations for an emotionally and physically well balanced horse.

Each week, you have access to an experienced clicker trainer who can help you work through individual issues and problems and find the solutions.

Designed For:  Those who would like to explore the world of clicker training and horses.

Objectives:  Introduce the base elements of Positive & Negative Reinforcement through the use of Clicker Training the horse.

Assessment Method:  Participation in online class discussions, weekly and course hands-on projects, essays, reading assignments as well as written assignments completed online.

Materials:  All materials provided online for access at any time.

Each course is augmented by Microsoft Power Point Presentations, live, real time instruction and discussions, videos, weekly assignments, quizzes and a Final Exam.

All courses are designed for either weekly attendance in the virtual "live" classes or the student may study on his or her own as time allows.

Students who complete a course satisfactorily during a 9 month period of time will receive a Certificate of Completion from PENZANCE Equine Solutions. (does not apply to the Seminars)

Forum discussions are encouraged for ongoing group study and students are also encouraged to keep journals of
their progress.

The courses include all materials you will need to complete the course.

Grading is NOT part of the Educational Series as we believe those who really want to learn will do their best each according to his or her own, individual capabilities.
