Amanda Martin, Company Director, established The S.M.A.A.R.T. Horse Company in 2010. An established horse and dog clicker trainer she wanted to develop equipment that was complementary to the clicker training philosophy of the use of positive reinforcement. 

 

The aim of the equipment is help the trainer be better able to manage treats and the animal to expand their ability to learn and show us how well they can think and problem solve. 

 

Ultimately, the equipment is helping to establish and improve the relationships between owners and their much loved animals.

 

 

Amanda has also discovered she is talented at teaching others clicker training for their horses. Having also studied equine behaviour for a year, she can effectively help owners solve difficult, long standing behavioural problems. 

 

 

Attendance at Alexandra Kurland horse training clinics in the UK and the USA and ClickerExpo (Karen Pryor, Sunshine Books) each year are paramount to her continued professional development. 

 

Then in 2009, Amanda added to her qualifications and graduated with distinctions in CAP 1 and 2, Canine Clicker Training, from Kay Lawrences' Wagmore Barn. 

 

 

As a clicker training teacher and behaviourist, Amanda ensures her knowledge of clicker training and the evolving understanding of learning theory (science) behind the training is as up to date as possible.

 

An academic herself (B.Sc. Physiology, M.Sc. Forensic Science), Amanda is keen to work with universities to better understand how animals learn and is currently in discussions for the use of her horse toys for recording data on how horses learn.
